1. Who we are
MarineInfo is a maritime information, community and recruitment platform. The controller responsible for personal data processed through MarineInfo is Plamen Kostov, based in Bulgaria. This policy covers the MarineInfo website and Android app. For privacy enquiries, contact us at plamen@marine-info.com.
2. Information we collect
The information we process depends on which MarineInfo features you use. It may include:
- Account information: name, email address, account type, maritime sector, authentication identifiers and account settings. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider; MarineInfo does not need to display them.
- Seafarer information: rank, nationality, country of residence, contact details, professional experience, vessel types, availability, qualifications, certificates, sea service, CVs, photographs and documents you choose to upload.
- Company and recruitment information: company and recruiter details, vacancies, applications, invitations, applicant communications, recruitment notes, saved candidates and related activity.
- Community and editorial information: questions, answers, blog contributions, comments, likes, attachments and reports or enquiries submitted through the platform.
- Messages and enquiries: messages exchanged using MarineInfo, requests to service providers, support messages and any information you include in them.
- Technical information: information necessary for session management, security and service operation, which may include IP address, device or browser characteristics, timestamps and diagnostic logs.
Please do not upload more personal information than is needed for your maritime or recruitment activities. Documents may contain additional information that you choose to provide.
3. How and why we use information
We process information to:
- Create, authenticate, maintain and secure accounts.
- Provide maritime profiles, CVs, jobs and applications.
- Enable appropriate recruitment searches and communications.
- Display posts, replies, news, blogs and maritime services.
- Respond to support, privacy and account deletion requests.
- Prevent misuse, investigate security issues and maintain reliability.
- Meet legal obligations that apply to the service.
Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases may include performance of a contract (providing the service you request), legitimate interests (security and proper operation), compliance with legal obligations, and consent where required for optional processing.
4. Profile visibility and sharing
Information you publish publicly, such as Community questions, answers and blog contributions, may be visible to other users within the relevant maritime area. Seafarer profile visibility depends on the settings and permissions of the platform, including options relating to verified companies or companies to which you have applied. When you apply for a vacancy, relevant application and professional information may be available to the receiving company and authorised recruiters. Messages are provided to their intended participants. You should avoid including sensitive personal information in public posts or messages unless necessary.
5. Service providers and third parties
We use Supabase for authentication, database services and file storage, and Vercel for hosting and delivery of the website. Where you choose Google sign-in, Google participates in the authentication process. We may also rely on infrastructure and email-delivery providers needed for account confirmation and service communications. These providers process data to deliver their services under the applicable arrangements.
Relevant professional information may be disclosed to the companies or other users you choose to engage with through MarineInfo. We do not describe these user-directed disclosures as a sale of personal data. If new advertising, analytics or payment integrations are introduced, this policy will be updated to describe the resulting processing.
6. International processing
Our service providers and other users may be located outside your country. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we will apply the safeguards required by applicable data protection law.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
The website or app may use cookies, local storage and similar technologies for authentication, session continuity, security and preferences. For more information, see our Cookie Policy. Any future non-essential tracking will need to be explained, together with consent controls where required by law.
8. Data retention
We generally keep account and profile information while your account is active and for the period necessary to provide the relevant features. Other records are retained only for as long as needed for their purpose, security, dispute resolution or applicable legal requirements. Technical logs and backups may follow the retention arrangements of our infrastructure providers. We review retained data and respond to valid requests for deletion or restriction.
9. Account deletion and retained public content
You can request permanent account deletion in MarineInfo through your account settings using the Delete accountoption. You can also request account or personal-data deletion from outside the app by emailing plamen@marine-info.com with the subject MarineInfo account deletion request. We may need to verify that you control the account before acting on a request.
Account deletion is designed to remove your login account, linked personal profile, CV, certificates, sea-service records and private account files. Some published Community questions, answers, blog posts and comments may remain to preserve useful discussions, but their link to your deleted profile is removed and the author is shown as Deleted user. Images attached to retained public content may also remain. Content you wrote may itself contain information capable of identifying you; if you need that content removed, please contact us with its URL or other identifying details.
Certain information may need to be retained where required for legitimate legal, security or dispute-related purposes. Where applicable, we will explain the reason for continued retention.
10. Security
We use measures designed to protect personal data, including authenticated access, database access controls and restricted access to private uploaded files. Data transmission uses secure connections where supported. No online service can guarantee absolute security; please keep your sign-in credentials safe.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on applicable law, including the GDPR where relevant, you may request access to, correction or deletion of personal data, restriction of processing, data portability, or object to certain processing. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it. You may also complain to a competent supervisory authority, including the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection where applicable.
Contact plamen@marine-info.com to exercise these rights. We may request reasonable verification before providing account-specific information.
12. Children
MarineInfo is designed for maritime professionals and business users and is not directed at children. If we learn that a child’s personal data has been collected contrary to applicable law, we will take appropriate steps to address it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform, its integrations or legal requirements change. The current version will be posted here with an updated date.
